Hi Folks,
After a recent update, I'm having a weird issue with gedit. Before the updated, when I opened a file from the command line with "gedit file.txt", gedit opened the file in a new tab of any existing window *if* the window was in the current workspace. After the update, gedit seems to search all workspace for any instance of gedit, and bounce me to that workspace.
As far as I can tell, this is nearly the same probablem that was reported in this thread three years ago:
unix.stackexchange.com/questions/403528 … -workspace
The notable differences between that post and my situation are the OS/desktop (gentoo/xfce for me, versus ubuntu/unity), and that that person is launching gedit graphically, and I'm launching it from the command line.
Sadly, the only response to that person's post down is a fairly clumpsy work around. Any ideas?

It looks like there's a similar problem with kate, which is a fork off gedit. This thread is newer, only 20 days old, but so far no one's found a solution except to tell the poster that their OS is out of date.
