Hi,
on Xubuntu 21.04 Redshift doesn't work anymore: seems as crazy, twice icons, on and off random... Can you help me please? it's a tool I need to reduce eyestrain.
Does XFCE has a built in tool as Ubuntu (Night Light)?

I just upgraded to 21.04 and got the same bug. It is reported & fixed upstream in Debian, https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo … bug=979075
You can fix it in Xubuntu 21.04 by deleting these symlinks (as root) and rebooting:
/etc/systemd/user/default.target.wants/redshift.service
/etc/systemd/user/default.target.wants/redshift-gtk.service
Redshift should still be enabled in Settings > Session & Startup > Application Autostart
I also had duplicate icons for redshift and network manager, I needed to delete "Status Notifier Plugin" from Panel-0 as XFCE is now using "Status Tray Plugin" instead but the upgrade to 21.04 seems to put both on although they seem to show the same icons.

tried but it doesn't work: screen flicker. Also tried to delete the redshift.service and .conf file.
The 21.04 repositories has the 1.12-4: is this the problem? in your link I read the issue is fixed in 1.12-4.1

What worked for me was:
1. create a redhsift folder in the .config folder
2. create inside this a .conf file called redshift.conf
3. Copy and past the following:
[redshift]
temp-day=4700
temp-night=3800
gamma=0.8
adjustment-method=randr
location-provider=manual
[manual]
lat=4.10932
lon=109.455475
Of course, you'll need to find your own lat and lon numbers via an Internet search and use those re. your actual location.

I reinstalled redshift again and after deleting redshift.service and redshift-gtk.service I put the file redshift.conf in /home/user/.config/.
It worked for a while but every now and then it's as if the software turns off and on again: in fact the screen turns yellow or white.
It's unreliable like this, I can't keep it: what does it depend on? Maybe on the version I mentioned before?
Will there be in the next 21.10 version an integrated app as promised some time ago and as all OS have (KDE, Windows10...)?

It looks like upstream there is now also 1.12-4.2 which removes systemd startup completely. Unfortunately these changes are currently only proposed for the next ubuntu version at the moment.
Check task manager that you only have once instance of "redshift-gtk" and "redshift -v" running. That would confirm if the service fix is working. If you see duplicates running could try to follow this comment to check and disable the service https://github.com/jonls/redshift/issue … -769196522

and until the 21.10 what do we have to do?
On my PC I've removed completely the redshift app. But by running the "systemctl list-unit-files --user" command I get:
redshift-gtk.service masked enabled

I rewrite my question:
Will there be in the next 21.10 version an integrated app as promised some time ago (but postponed) and as all OS have (KDE, Windows10...)?

I got the same issue. I switched to gammastep instead now. Seems like it's fork of redshift? Anyway gmmastep works perfectly for me

I have tried Gammastep also but it does the same thing as redshift: every time it goes crazy, it changes the screen color, returns yellow then white and so on.
I just have to reinstall the OS from scratch with the next 21.10 and hope that it works well.

Have you tried to setup a configuration file? Just in case of issues with the
automatic location provider
