Thanks!!

Hello and welcome.
You could just use Alt+F4 to close any active window. If you want to use another keyboard shortcut, the following command will do the same (requires xdotool):
xdotool getactivewindow windowclose

Thanks very much for the response, where is ALT F4 documented? It's not listed in the Keyboard settings...

The online documentation makes reference to it. Its built-in and pretty much a standard among desktop environments (? not 100% sure about all of them).

I've set the Super + Shift + C to close my windows.
Go to Window Manager > Keyboard, find Close Window and click on it, Click edit, type in custom keybinding i.e. Super + Shift + C.
Note: You'll need to delete or reallocate the Super Key = show Whisker Menu key (I don't use any of the xfce menus so this is not a problem for me - I use dmenu and/or rofi).
