This is xfce 4.16 on FreeBSD 12.2. Some thing I recently made the mousepad window stop using the system theme window. I did not figure out how to include an image in this post. You can see the windows at https://www.safeport.com/wp-content/upl … usepad.png

Which version of Mousepad?

Looks like CSD is enabled in Edit > Preferences > Window (tab) > Client-side decorations

If dtd uses version 0.5.6, yes, but if he uses version 0.5.5, he must go through the command line:
gsettings set org.xfce.mousepad.preferences.window client-side-decorations false
Hence my question

That did it, thank you. mousepad is 0.5.5. I recently had to upgrade all packages because installing thunderbird caused issues for me in xfce. I believe that affected mousepad while correcting all my other issues. I assume from the thread 0.5.6 has the Client-side decorations option. 0.5.5 does not.
`man gsettings` got all my other questions.
When I entered the Unix world the best book ever was Evi Nemeth's book on sys admin. She said she read every man page once/year and never failed to learn something. That she made the time and had the energy is what separates the great and the aspiring greats. Needless to say I come to gsetting late in life. Thanks again

Both have the option, but it is "hidden" in 0.5.5 (only accessible from the command line), whereas it was added to the preferences dialog in 0.5.6.
