Xfce 4.16.0 - Saving files with long file names

Hello, Xfce-forum.

I am using MX-linux with Xfce desktop.

So far MX-19.4 with
desktop: Xfce 4.14.2 tk: Gtk 3.24.5 info: xfce4-panel wm: xfwm4 dm: LightDM 1.26.0

Now I installed MX-21 with
desktop: Xfce 4.16.0 tk: Gtk 3.24.24 info: xfce4-panel wm: xfwm4 dm: LightDM 1.26.0

What I really like about Xfce 4.16.0 are the improvements in the display settings.

Finally, you no longer run the risk of accidentally choosing an incompatible resolution
in to the  black or extremely distorting screen with no way back.

Thanks for that.

But what I don't like at all about version Xfce 4.16.0 is the file-saving-dialog-window.
Or rather the stubby, small file name line.

I use filenames of up to 150 characters, so that I get an overview of the file contents,
with  much information as possible, right from reading the filename.

At 150 characters, it's horrible to navigate in this mini design file name line.

It would be nice to have an update, so that the save-dialog-window again has a proper filename line
that spans the entire window width and dynamically adjusts when the window is resized, as was the case in
Xfce 4.14.2 tk: Gtk 3.24.5

Until then, I would appreciate some guidance.
A guide on how I need to edit the config-file for this window to increase the filename-line and where to find this file.

Thanks

Which file-save dialog are you referring to? From which program?
The GtkFileChooser (as part of GTK and used by most Xfce programs) dialog will allow you to resize it, stretching out the filename field as required, saving the last know size for future use.

Re: Xfce 4.16.0 - Saving files with long file names

Hi, ToZ
Thank you for reply.

It happens to all file-save-dialog, except the one of Featherpad.
Perhaps because of QT.

But anyway else, if i go to save a file with LibreOffice, an PDF-viewer, an photo-viewer or an internet-browser, i got an file-save-window with this tiny, small lane, where i have to place the file-name.

Yes, the window itself  is expendable.
But not the lane for the file-name.
It didn't grow at all withe the window. It stays short.

I've got some example-photos of LibreOffice.
I'd liked to place them here.
But i couldn't figured out how.

I had placed them all ready before in the MX-Forum.
You can have a look at them there. ( if you are registered and logged in )

Re: Xfce 4.16.0 - Saving files with long file names

I think I know what might be happening - the Save/Cancel buttons are in the header and this limits the size of the filename field. Try running the following command to return functionality to how it was before:

xfconf-query -c xsettings -p /Gtk/DialogsUseHeader -s false
