I use XFCE since a decade (even more). I tried this graphical environment for the first time on a Pentium 2 that i repaired and had a ridiculous amount of RAM. I could hardly open the web browser with windows XP but was able to have a decent global experience thanks to the low resource consuming of XFCE (Xubuntu). I love the versatility of XFCE. You can stick to an old school basic but efficient environment in old machines or enhance it easily to have a very nice modern looking desktop. Long life to XFCE!
