Media hotkeys don't work without pulse audio on the panel.

System info:
Manjaro XFCE
Cheap no name USB Bluetooth adapter.
Bose qc35ii headphones

My workflow has no need for a panel and as such I've been attempting to trim away unnecessary widgets. Unfortunately, whenever I remove PulseAudio's Plugin from my panel I lose the ability to use my media keys (volume up, down, mute, play/pause, next, previous) as well as the built in controls on my headphones which serve the same functions. When the widget is re added the functionality is restored after a few seconds. This leads me to believe the problem has something to do with the pulse audio service stopping when it leaves the panel but I could be mistaken. How should I proceed?

Hello and welcome.

The pulseaudio plugin is capable of managing the media keys. If you are no longer using the pulseaudio plugin, try installing and running xfce4-volumed-pulse (it should be in the AUR) - it will provide media key support as well (it simply runs as a process in the background - no plugin).
