Get rid of shadows within icons

Hi,

I am using xfwm4 4.12.3 on CentOS 7.6.
I am not 100% pleased with how things look, however I am certain that there must be an option that I can disable to get the look I am expecting.

I will provide you with what I am expecting as well as what I am seeing.

Expected (gnome):
1. image.png
2. image.png

Xfce:
1. image.png
2. image.png

As you can see in Xfce there is some haze around the line (highlighted in yellow) in the first image and also it seems like there is some distortion around the characters.
In the second image the button has some shadow like thing in the bottom half which I tried to mark in yellow.

This is from some program, but I am basically seeing similar things in almost all applications, even in the task bar image.png.

I am wondering how can I disable such effects.

Re: Get rid of shadows within icons

Hello and welcome.

What is the output of the following command?

gtk-query-settings gtk-theme

What's the content of the gtk.css file?

cat ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css

Re: Get rid of shadows within icons

I am using xfwm4 4.12.3 on CentOS 7.6.

Most components of Xfce 4.12 use the gtk2 toolkit like the panel/taskbar. Gnome uses the gtk3 toolkit. You might be comparing two different toolkits unless it's the same application.

Re: Get rid of shadows within icons

I am getting the following output from the gtk settings command:
gtk-theme-name: "Adwaita"

This happens from both the Xfce session and the Gnome session.

The screenshots are taken from the exact same application.
If gtk2 is used for Xfce 4.12 while Gnome uses gtk3, the question would be can I get the more flat look from Xfce/gtk2?

Re: Get rid of shadows within icons

What if you change your theme? Do shadows still appear?

If not, then it's a theming issue but I'm not familiar with how GTK2 operates to suggest a fix.

Re: Get rid of shadows within icons

I tried changing the themes from the appearance application, while the themes change the shadowing effect remains.

Re: Get rid of shadows within icons

What do you have in your custom CSS files?

Re: Get rid of shadows within icons

The file ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css doesn't exist.

Re: Get rid of shadows within icons

Could you create a new user on your system and log in to check?
