Hi
I use Folders on my Desktop like in windows 10 or KDE
I dont use Drop-Down-Menus
and when i move a Launcher in a Folder
the displayed Name does change in the File-name of the Launcher
p. example "Galculator" on Desktop will be "Galculator.Desktop in the Folder
this was not so on XFCE 4,12
the filemanager pcmanfm-qt display this right also in Folders like other Managers
but i do not want a 2nd Manager ,
Is there a secret config-file -entry , that Thunar display this also ??
if not, i change to kde ,
Please no Question, why i want this ,,, u can help or not

Hello and welcome.
This was done on purpose. See the following bug report: https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/thunar/-/issues/56.

i could make a script that could be run in the directory/folder with the .desktop files and change all the Name= settings to be the same. they need to keep the ".desktop" extension so the software knows which files to use.
ok, i'll avoid asking you why you want to do this. i'll also assume it is not intended to clutter the desktop. but, in my opinion this would clutter the desktop with the ".desktop" extension added to each name.
i also assume you were not aware of the naming needs of the software. it would be nice if it recognized something simpler like a shorter extension. but the big extension ".desktop" was chosen as part of desktop common interfacing/naming. i have no idea how KDE behaves with this. i could be all wrong about this.

Thanks for u Answers
I can not understand this, XFCE had make a release with this Major-Bug.
I was happy 5 years ago, with XFCE a slim and fast Desktop, (after Start only 530 mb Ram usage)
with all properties in Desktop like Windows or KDE
and then: over Night , after a Release Debian with XFCE to 4.16 , i see the "new Names" in my Desktop-Folders.
Ok. if some Users want see the "real Filename" , then give us a Switch in Thunar, how to display Launchers
@Yeah, u cant remove ".desktop" , or the Launcher is dead !
My Workarraund is: Start all with Bash-scripts , as "Icons" u have to use Emblemes,
so i make new Emblemes , The Default-emblemes r primitive
Only for that theme, i have become a new Member here , excuse my bad English

It might be best to create a bug report to see what the developers say.
