Hi, I'm looking for configure my xfce4-dict to be fully functional but I'm stuck with the spell checker option.
I have aspell installed and I choose "en" as dictionary but when I write a word in the search field and I click on the "Find" button, the application freezes. I can only close the app, no other buttons work.
I'm on OpenBSD 7.1, XFCE 4.16 and xfce4-dict 0.8.4.
Tell me if you need more informations. Thanks by advance. : )

Hello and welcome.
Log files would be helpful. Not sure where openbsd logs xsession errors to, but have a look around to see if you can find anything. You can also try running xfce4-dict in verbose mode:
xfce4-dict -v
...but to get any output, make sure you don't have the panel plugin added to a panel - remove it first if you do.

And a screenshot of the application freezing
[edit]Looks like it works backend but I don't see anything on the frontend.

I get the same messages. Is it possible that the output is in white font? Can you try another appearance theme and see if that makes a difference?
And can you also confirm that aspell works in a terminal:
aspell -a
...and type in some words to check. See if you get any output.
Edit: or:
aspell -a --lang=en_US
..assuming the US dictionary.

It very well could be, though it was originally described that no buttons are functional. I think the issue is more likely with aspell, so I concur with your inquiry.
remake, can you also check whether you have /usr/share/dict and containing files in place?
Remember to edit the subject of your topic to include the [SOLVED] tag once you're satisfied with the answers or have found a solution (in which case, don't forget to share it as well), so that other members of the community can quickly refer to it and save their time. Pretty please!
