Until recently I have been using Xubuntu 20.04 LTS (xfce 4.14) which worked with restoring sessions with opened pdf files (in the default pdf viewer, standardly installed in Xubuntu 20.04 LTS - Atril Document Viewer - version 1.24.0). I switched to the new version of Xubuntu 22.04 LTS (xfce 4.16) and session restore does not work for opened pdf files (in Atril Document Viewer - version 1.26.0). However, in a restored session, for example, the file manager and terminal is restored, but not opened pdf files.
I compared (on freshly installed systems) the session saving behavior with pdfs opened in Atril Document Viewer between Xubuntu 20.04 (xfce 4.14) versus 22.04 (xfce 4.16). Works on Xubuntu 20.04, but not on Xubuntu 22.04.
What can I do to save opened pdf files in the session - and later (after reboot) restore session with opened pdf files in Xubuntu 22.04 (xfce 4.16)?

Or maybe someone knows whether that Xubuntu 22.04 LTS (xfce 4.16) does not restore sessions with opened PDF files (in Atril Document Viewer - version 1.26.0) is feature or a bug? If this is a bug, can it be fixed?

Atril seems to support the EggSMClient protocol. Its unclear to what extent it is supported in Xfce. libxfce4ui seems to reference it, but Atril doesn't show up in the Session and Start up > Current Session listing.
I would start with a bug report against libxfce4ui to see what the developers will say.

Can someone do this instead of me? I am unadvanced user of Xubuntu. I don't understand the "back-end" operations of xfce and don't know the details of bug reporting, but it is very important to me to save opened PDF files in a session.

Just as a "me too" I can confirm that atril does this. Evince works just the same ... ie, no saving.
