Tilde in Thunar

Never before have I seen a tilde (~) in thunar, but all of a sudden there it is in my user's directory tree.

But that's not all of the strange behavior.  If the tilde is to represent the home directory of the particular user, then that would appear to mean home/home as tilde usually indicates the home directory.

In any case however, the paths appear different in their contents.  So in the /home/user/ directory we see:
.local/applications
and .local/share/.....
but then:
~/.local/opt/tor-browser/......

The only thing I know is that I had been messing with a tor-related symlink.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Re: Tilde in Thunar

The tilde is a shell shortcut pointing to $HOME. It is also a valid file or folder name, but in thunar it is just a string - it doesn't mean $HOME.

Something must have messed up when you were doing your symlinking.

Yep, I wondered about that.  So now I wonder how I undo it.  Maybe its time for a new OS upgrade.  wink neutral
