VLC cannot open media files on android phone storage

When connecting android phone to my pc with xubuntu 22.04, two new folders are mounted automated in thunar. One folder contains one exe file for windows system with the mounting point /media/myself/***, and the other folder is the actual internal storage with the mounting point mtp://*****.

The owner of the latter folder is root. However I can still copy from/to its subfolder. But when I try to open media files in it, vlc report someting like

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'mtp://****

Any way to solve it?

Re: VLC cannot open media files on android phone storage

You need a library that can handle MTP (Media Transfer Protocol). Try installing mtp-tools. Further information: https://askubuntu.com/questions/376815/ … untu-13-10
