cant add anything to the styles section of the appearance tab

hi, ive been having a reoccurring issue where i am not able to add any themes. i am using a debian based distro and i tried entering the xfce4-appearance-settings application through the terminal and setting a theme, but no errors!! Does anyone know a fix to this unusual bug?

Hello and welcome.

Is it adding themes or setting themes that you are having a problem with?

If adding themes, then:

  • How are you trying to add themes?

  • And specifically which themes?

If selecting themes, then make sure you are not running xfce4-appearance-settings as root (you must run it as your user account). Also check the contents of ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini in case there are some overrides there.

Which version of Xfce are you running:

xfce4-about -V
