Transparent Clickthrough Window

Hello,  I am needing to run a program that sort of acts like an on screen display. The window is displaying an animation and is translucent and always on top.  I need the window to ignore the mouse and keyboard so that the other programs can be used normally, but with the overlay window still visible.  Is there a way to do that?  I am struggling to find the right terms to search for.  A program like xosd will display text, but I need a translucent animation displayed.

Re: Transparent Clickthrough Window

AFAICT, what you're asking is pretty much impossible with the way Xfwm4 is set up. A client that's on top will stay on top regardless of its opacity. Any mouse clicks and other events will be registered on that window, not the one below.

The alternative is to reduce opacity of active windows by scrolling your mouse wheel horizontally. Enable this feature with:

xfconf-query --channel xfwm4 --property /general/horiz_scroll_opacity --set true

Now you can scroll horizontally in the title bar and adjust the active window's opacity:

Note that the active window is the one that I'm typing my reply in.

Though, I'm not gonna lie it's a bit trippy. It took me a good 10 or 15 seconds to navigate between the two windows...

Remember to edit the subject of your topic to include the [SOLVED] tag once you're satisfied with the answers or have found a solution (in which case, don't forget to share it as well), so that other members of the community can quickly refer to it and save their time. Pretty please! tongue
