[SOLVED] Panels 4.18 can't be set to transparent.

Hi,

Even with the alpha slider set to left the panels remains black without changing the opacity. The colors can be changed but not the opacity. Any idea why or it's a bug ?

Thanks.

Edit : Archlinux up to date.

Also make sure the compositor is enabled.

https://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/ … rent-panel in case process is unclear.

Re: [SOLVED] Panels 4.18 can't be set to transparent.

Hi,

@ Tamaranch : Yes, I have opened a bug report.

@ ToZ : I have tried with xfwm4 & picom compositors without success. Even tried to take my /GTK3/.css away neither success.

The slider has no effect on the transparency...

Did you restart the panel after removing gtk.css?

Can you confirm which slider you are referring to?

Yes, I even rebooted after removing my .css without success.

Is it working by you ?

The alpha slider at the bottom in the colors dialog.

Re: [SOLVED] Panels 4.18 can't be set to transparent.

Yes it is working for me.

Can you post back (with picom disabled and xfwm4 compositing enabled):

xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -lv | grep compos
xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -lv | grep background
for r in $(xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -lv | grep background-rgba | awk '{print $1}'); do echo $r; xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -p $r; done

Can you also try another Appearance (GTK) theme to see if that makes a difference?

Re: [SOLVED] Panels 4.18 can't be set to transparent.

SOLVED !

Don't ask how exactly but I changed from picom to xfwm4 compositors few times and restarted the panel few times and now I have transparent panels.

Computing mystery...

Thanks for you help.

Edit :

xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -lv | grep compos
/general/use_compositing                 false

xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -lv | grep background
/panels/panel-1/background-rgba               <<UNSUPPORTED>>
/panels/panel-1/background-style              1
/panels/panel-2/background-rgba               <<UNSUPPORTED>>
/panels/panel-2/background-style              1

for r in $(xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -lv | grep background-rgba | awk '{print $1}'); do echo $r; xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -p $r; done
/panels/panel-1/background-rgba
La valeur est un tableau de 4 éléments :

0.750000
0.250000
0.250000
0.000000
/panels/panel-2/background-rgba
La valeur est un tableau de 4 éléments :

0.113333
0.112200
0.112200
1.000000

Re: [SOLVED] Panels 4.18 can't be set to transparent.

After some investigation I found out that the problem comes from Picom not from xfwm4 compositor. If I logout/in from xfwm4 the panels remain transparent but with Picom they get black and I have replace the panels to get them transparent again. It sounds like Picom doesn't initialize the panels.

I will open a bug report there and post the result here as well.

Edit : The bug report :

@sushi Please next time add the link to the upstream bu report in a new post so that we are notified. I only realized this addition now, following a new post on https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/issues/672.
