Open App icons Lose Picture Overnight or after Inactivity

Hi I have used XFCE over the years but am drilling into it more now. I started Linux on Slackware in 1995. Now I'm using MX Linux 21.2 and really like it. I just upgraded to XFCE 4.18.0.

Problem: After sitting overnight or after some period of inactivity the open app icons lose their graphic picture and show as blank icons. Please bear with me if this is some simple setting. I noticed this before upgrading to XFCE 4.18.0. If you hover over blank icon for an open app it shows the tooltip of what app it is.

thanks

Re: Open App icons Lose Picture Overnight or after Inactivity

Hello and welcome. Cut my teeth on Slackware as well circa 1995.....

Is that the "Windows Buttons" plugin that is losing the image? Or are you using a dock like xfce4-docklike or plank, etc.
Does this loss of image happen anywhere else on your system?
Can you post back the contents of your ~/.xsession-errors file right after it happens?

Re: Open App icons Lose Picture Overnight or after Inactivity

Hi thanks for the reply.

Just using the standard XFCE4-panel 4.18.0 and xfce4-docklike-plugin
No other loss on system
Will post next error.

XFCE4-panel 4.18.0

I just R-clicked on the blank icons and poof - the images all came back.

Before and After

XFCE4-panel 4.18.0

thanks!

So the problem is with the docklike plugin. What version of the plugin are you running? The package manager should be able to tell you.

Re: Open App icons Lose Picture Overnight or after Inactivity

Is there anything in ~/.xsession-errors related to docklike or possibly errors related to images?

Re: Open App icons Lose Picture Overnight or after Inactivity

Without more context this may not be helpful, but in .xsession-errors I found just this:

xfce4-panel-Message: 12:41:51.373: Plugin docklike-2 has been automatically restarted after crash.

That's just about the time I R-clicked on the blank icon.

Hmm. Perhaps the best way forward is create a bug report, but I notice you just created one. Lets see what the developer says.
