Icons visualisation

Hallo,
can anybody suggest me a reason why in a folder containing pictures ( jpg, png, etc..) some are are fully shown and others are shown like a stripe (and the rest is gray) of 20%, 30'% or simply like a grey square?
This happens with different picture formats (jpeg, png etc) and independently of the size ( i.e. some icons of pictures of 45 MB are shown while others of 2MB aren't).
