Folks,
I have a directory that contains a very large number of sub-directories whose names END with the 4-digit year (e.g. 2019). I would like to display all the sub-directories that end with a given year. With Thunar it is easy to select all those sub-directories, but the selections are scattered throughout a very large number of other (non-selected) sub-directories. Is there some way to view (sort?) all the selected sub-directories together in one place so they can be identified more easily?
Thanks, Wayne

Hello and welcome.
The new thunar built-in search functionality can provide such a view:
What version of thunar are you using? This functionality was developed later in the 4.17.x process and available in thunar 4.18.
You can also use the "catfish" app to search/sort/filter.

It is easy to use a pattern such as *2019 to select (i.e. highlight) all sub-directories with names ending in 2019. The problem is that this may select 25 sub-directories out of 400 total sub-directories. It is then necessary to scroll though all 400 of those sub-directories in order to locate all the selected ones. I would really like a way to group the selected entries together for inspection.
I'm using Thunar 4.18.2 running under MX Linux 21.3

When I entered "-2019" in the search, it filtered and only displayed the directories with "-2019" in the name. All the other directories were filtered out and not displayed:
Perhaps I am misunderstanding something...

Very strange! In my case, the selected sub-directories are highlighted and the number of those directories is listed at the bottom of the Thunar window. However, the non-selected sub-directories are ALSO shown intermixed with the highlighted ones. Perhaps there is a Thunar option to filter out non-selected items? I wanted to attach a screen shot showing an example of my problem, but I'm sure how to do this. Perhaps you could give me a little guidance on doing this? Thanks again, Wayne

You have to initiate the filter/search using built-in search function by clicking on the magnifying glass first. If you don't have the magnifying glass, you can add it to the toolbar via View > Configure Columns, and enable "Search for files...".

That was the problem! Using the "magnifying glass" rather than Ctrl-S to start the search made all the difference. I had no idea that those two search methods were so different!
I'm sorry to be so ignorant, but how do I mark this question as answered?
Thanks for all your help, Wayne

Edit your initial post in this thread and pre-pend "[SOLVED']" to the subject line.
