I've recently upgraded my Debian 11 to 12. I've found that Thunar shows files in list view using an icon, which occupies too much space for my taste. I haven't been able to show files using the name instead of the thumbnail
Does someone knows how to fix this annoying viewmode?

When I load my Debian 11 VM and look at thunar in list mode (Ctrl+2), I see both the icon/thumbnail as well as the filename. I'm not sure what you are referring to when you say "I haven't been able to show files using the name instead of the thumbnail".
If the icon is too big, you can shrink it by zooming out (Ctrl+-).

I just want to see the name without any thumbnails and get the rest of the columns. I think this a Thunar limitation, isn't it?

I don't recall thunar ever doing that - at least not in recent history. Here are some screenshots from Xfce 4.4 when thunar was first introduced.

In case u use the tumbler-plugins-extra it's even worse since the compact view becomes an icon view

Is there any way to set the icon size independently for list and thumbnail views? As it is, they both seem to be always set to the same size. So I end up with oversized icons in list view, and undersized icons in thumbnail view meaning I can't easily switch between the views without having to also change the zoom level every time.

Not that I am aware of. That section is hidden away behind a "widget" that is managed via code only.
