How do you associate a RTSP URL to an application?

I'd like to use ffplay to open RTSP URLs...

As far as I have gotten is:

x-scheme-handler/rtsp;x-scheme-handler/rtp;x-scheme-handler/rtmp

But, I don't know where I put this or how to associate /usr/bin/ffplay

Can anyone tell me the answer?

Re: How do you associate a RTSP URL to an application?

First you can check under "xfce4-mime-settings" if you find "x-scheme-handler/rtsp" or "x-scheme-handler/rtp;" , " x-scheme-handler/rtmp", if you find something you can set a default application to that mime-type.

If you don't find anything in "xfce4-mime-settings" than you will need to create it in your system.

If you want to create this mime-type you need to create a new entry under "/usr/share/mime/packages/" or "~/.local/share/mime/packages/"  and update the mime-database.

For that, xfce will not have a GUI or commandline application, and you need to do it by your self.
Here are some helpful wiki articles and a blog post, that has maybe the same problem as you.

Archlinux wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/XDG_MIME_Applications
Xfce-Forum ( similar problem):  https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=13917

Did you know if there is a ready to use XML file for this from ffplay, because I can't find anything on the web for rtsp rtmp.
Maybe someone has here a copy and paste solution for that. :D
