Hello,
I have a fresh install of Debian 12, Xfce 4.18, X11. 16 GB of RAM
When I have 2 or more tabs opened in Thunar and there are different filesystems opened in those tabs, Thunar starts to slow down to a crawl.
For example, in 1st tab Home directory on SSD1 is opened, on 2nd tab backup directory on SSD2 is opened. I move between those tabs, select files with a mouse and copy/paste them from one SSD to another. The more I do it, the slower Thunar becames to the point where it takes 2 seconds to highlight a file after I clicked on it. No errors printed if I launch Thunar thru the Terminal.
On the same machine there is Debian 11 installed on another SSD and Debian 10 installed on nvme SSD. Neither one of those show of ever showed this behavior with Thunar.
Does anyone else experience slowdowns in Thunar in Debian 12?

Hi larsen,
I don't use Debian, but didn't have these slow-downs with Thunar(version) 4.18.6 on OpenSuse.
what version of Thunar you use?
If you use the "Stable" repo did this happen with "testing" too?
And did you try to build it from source and check if this slow-downs happen too?
Because it's sound to me that this is a problem with the Package build or with some configurations with Debian 12.
Maybe you can ask this on Gitlab : https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/thunar and there is someone to help you debug it with gdb or valgrind

Hi ka_,
thank you for the answer.
thunar 4.18.4 (Xfce 4.18)
Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm) Stable
I'm afraid using "testing" or building from source is beyond my expertise.
Fresh install of Debian 12 with xfce4, xfce4-goodies, xfce4-power-manager, gvfs-backends, gvfs-fuse.
Nothing changed except desktop appearance.
