I'm running Linux Mint 21.2 XFCE, which uses Thunar 4.18.4.

According to https://docs.xfce.org/xfce/thunar/hidden-settings it is now possible to get a confirmation dialog when moving files to Trash:
misc-confirm-move-to-trash bool If true enables a confirmation to move files to trash (similar to permanently delete) New in thunar 4.18.x
I have added this setting using xfconf, and both the GUI settings editor and xfconf show that it has been set correctly:
xfconf-query --channel thunar --property /misc-confirm-move-to-trash
true
Unfortunately it is not working. When I delete a file either by the Del key or using the context menu Delete command, the file is immediately moved to Trash without any confirmation dialog.
Any suggestions on how to get this working?

It looks like it was fixed and to be released in 4.19.0. See: https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/thunar/-/issues/464.

Ok, thanks ToZ.
It looks like the page at https://docs.xfce.org/xfce/thunar/hidden-settings was a tad premature.

Reading through that bug report I get the sense it was a regression.
