Icons gone away everywhere : gtk-update-icon-cache no theme index file

Hello,

I've installed xfce4 on devuan 4 armhf on my Arm Chromebook. From a certain point,I don't know when and why, every icon is disappeared from the desktop ; I would like to fix the problem.

If I look inside the directory /usr/share/icons,I see the following sub-directories :

Adwaita ; Deepsea ; Oxygen_Blue ; Tango ; default ; locolor ; Breeze_Snow ; HighContrast ; Oxygen_White ; breeze ; gartoon ; oxygen ; DMZ-Black ; KDE_Classic ; Oxygen_Yellow ; breeze-dark ; gnome ; yasis ; DMZ-White ; Oxygen_Black ; Oxygen_Zion ; breeze_cursors ; hicolor

I have also installed kde 5,but I don't use it,since it is slower than xfce.

In a old post I've read that the problem can be fixed giving the following command :

gtk-update-icon-cache --force /usr/share/icons/hicolor

unfortunately it does not work. It gives the following further error : no Theme index file.

At this point it became too technical for me to fix this problem and I've decided to ask help.

Hello and welcome.

Check to see if the xfdesktop process is running? If not, start it up in a terminal window to see if it generates an error message.

If it is running, make sure you have icons enabled (Desktop Settings > Icons > Icon Type setting) - make sure its not set to "None".
