How to get ctrl-alt-c/v to do a copy/paste under x-terminal-emulator?

First, thanks to all the developers and contributors for XFCE!   I have been using it for the past few months.

I am on Debian bookworm and my Xfce version is: xfce4-about 4.18.2 (Xfce 4.18)

The one thing I was not able to find is how to do copy/paste using the keyboard when I am typing on the terminal emulator.  It shows 'mlterm' at the top of the window.   I think the executable is called x-terminal-emulator.

The middle mouse button works but I would really prefer to use the keyboard.

Any help?

Add the SHIFT key for use in the terminal.

Yes, this is what I meant in the post title, sorry for the typo.

I tried but it does not work in my terminal.
While the middle mouse button does paste in the terminal, these did not work:
   ctrl-v, ctrl-alt-v, ctrl-shift-v, ctrl-alt-shift-v
They either show ^V or nothing when I type them.

EDIT:
The ctrl-shift-c seems to work ok though, since I could copy text from the terminal window and then paste in a vscode text editing window.  Although it does show ^C in the terminal so it made me think it was not working.
