Thunar trash is very slow, currently only has 460MiB usage...
Deleting 1 small file takes about 1 s. Deleting 20 small files takes several seconds...
My filesystem is btrfs with $HOME being a subvolume,, all on fast NVMe. What can I do?
Cleaning all the trash takes ~60 seconds.

Which version of thunar are you running?
Is there anything in your log files (journalctl, syslog, and/or ~/.xsession-errors) about gvfs-trash?
Does the problem also exist if you delete the trash using:
gio trash --empty

thunar-4.18.0. I'm going to try the gio trash --empty soon.
