Lost Right Click Bring Up Menu Context On External Mouse

My problem is similar to this: https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=16373

On my external USB mouse I can’t seem to bring up the menu context when clicking the right mouse button. For example, if I am in a browser, I used to be able to bring up the menu context by clicking the right mouse button so I can get the option to open the hyper link in a new tab. I haven’t changed anything in terms of updates or changing the mouse configuration so not sure how I have lost this feature. I went into the mouse and touchpad application but there is nothing there I can see that will switch this back on.

xfdesktop is running.

Running this: xfconf-query -c xfce4-desktop -p /desktop-menu/show
I get: Property "/desktop-menu/show" does not exist on channel "xfce4-desktop".

Hello and welcome.

Does the right mouse button not work anywhere on the system? If so, can you test to see if the right mouse button is being recognized? Open a terminal window and run:

xev -event button | grep button

This will open another window on which you can click your mouse buttons and the terminal will display which button is being registered. The right mouse button should be button 3.

Hi ToZ,

It works nowhere on the system. Not sure what has happened. Here is the result of the test:

xev -event button | grep button

xev -event button | grep button
state 0x10, button 1, same_screen YES
state 0x110, button 1, same_screen YES
state 0x10, button 2, same_screen YES
state 0x210, button 2, same_screen YES

As you can see the button 3 does not register. Button 1 is the left mouse click, button 2 is the middle scroll wheel click.

Any chance you could try another mouse? Maybe this one is defective.
