Understanding folders auto-deletion with thunar Manjaro

Hi all,

On my external back-up ssd (ntfs format), after moving a dozen of light pdf files inside a folder, the others folders inside this one disappeared just after the moving operation. (I just used ctrl+V/ctrl+C command)
This is the second time I got this kind of issue, the first one was 2 year ago, a crash of thunar during a transfert from an external ssd to an internal sata hdd (both in ext4 format) all files selected for move were deleted. Files were recovered with photorec for most of them.
Is this kind of issue was already reported in the past and what's is going wrong with thunar, anyone know why this occured?

It might be helpful if there was some logging output. Have a look at your user's journal:

journalctl --user

...at around the time of the issue to see if any output was generated.

Also, if Manjaro uses an ~/.xsession-errors log file, there may be something in there as well.

Hi,

I found about 6000 lines with the same errors, these should be the files deleted by thunar (my folders contained a huge quantity of pdf)

I did a recovery with photorec but failed with foremost (segmentation error)
I didn't do nothing more on my back-up ssd, there is always 99go free, the same before this thunar error. Is there another way to retore them directly?

This was supposedly fixed in glib2 version 2.76. Manjaro should have a newer version. Can you confirm both the versions of glib2 and thunar that you are running?

tumblerd is crashing because its running out of open files. What does the following return on your system?

On my external back-up ssd (ntfs format), after moving a dozen of light pdf files inside a folder, the others folders inside this one disappeared just after the moving operation.

Does this only happen when working with the ntfs filesystem, or can you replicate it on non-ntfs filesystems? Are any of the above log files from a time that this issue happened? Maybe:

sudo journalctl | grep -i ntfs

...to see if something shows up.

Interresting question, my first crash was a transfert from ntfs to ext4, maybe the guilty is this ntfs format.....
I will try to reproduce this in the week after backed-up the datas inside, in case of.... I'm using another ssd in ntfs format for my tv, I cross my fingers to do not have another issue with this ssd too.
Can this crash be done because of the quantity of files stored or transferred ? first crash were big folders transfert with pictures and videos, the second, only a dozen of pdf files were moved but biggest folders were deleted when thunar did a refresh of the window after the transfer.

All logs joined are from my second crash extracted around the time when the issue occured. I'm not developper, so I hope that infos sended are correct and pertinent.

It would appear that tumbler is crashing because it exceeds the number of allowed open files. Might make sense if you are transferring many images and watch them (in thunar) appear in a folder. Regardless, tumbler shouldn't crash and it would make sense to file a bug report.

Lets see if you can replicate the files disappearing issue on a filesystem other than ntfs, if possible.
