Hello,
I am unable to start the xfce session since today. It all worked fine until I restarted some services in Ubuntu 22.04 server to which I am connecting from a Windows machine.
Xfce desktop disappeared and when I tried to launch it again, I could RDP the machine, but the xfce session won't start.
I find nothing here (it means no file is there)
~/.xsession-errors
or here
~/.xsession-errors.old
if I try
~$ xfce4-session -V
xfce4-about: Cannot open display: .
Type 'xfce4-about --help' for usage information.
and ~/.cache/sessions is empty
I am not sure where to look.
Thank you in advance for your advice.

Hello and welcome.
xrdp will log to another location. Not sure about ubuntu, but on Arch those log files show up in my home directory (.xorgxrdp.10.log) and /var/log (xrdp.log and xdrp-sesman.log). Have at look at those to see what the issue is. Feel free to post them back for a second set of eyes to review.

Eventually I found some xfce process running such as
adm_dif+ 1264389 1264374 0 Apr11 ? 00:00:00 xfce4-session
I rebooted the machine to stop all user process and now it works fine.
Thank you for your help.
