Cycle Window OSD (Alt + Tab) show without having to hold Tab key

Before putting in a suggestion for something like this, I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to be able to open up the Cycle Window OSD window switcher without having to hold down modifier key in this case Alt, but whatever modifier key you have assigned with key to open this.
Or is this only designed to hold down key to keep open and auto select at close.

I also just tried linking to a single hotkey (temporary key test) 5
This just performed the changing of the window but no OSD shows up.

this may not work for anyone else, but...

i changed the alt+tab shortcut to be shift+tab

then, i found i can press and hold SHIFT
press and let go TAB (the Cycle Window OSD is displayed)
press and hold ALT
let go SHIFT
let go ALT - the OSD will continue to be displayed

i think this is actually making the shift key sticky, because to exit/select a window option i need to press shift again

fwiw, I also use a panel launcher button with the command below to show the Cycle Windows display for 6 seconds... (I stole this from someone else somewhere on this forum)

xdotool keydown Shift key Tab key Left sleep 6 keyup Shift
