Hi.
I am using XFCE 4.18.6 on Void Linux. Recently (I can't remember exactly since when...), when logging in the desktop wallpaper takes a couple of seconds to change (I've setup LightDM to have a different one on the login screen) and the Status Tray plugin takes even more time to appear on the panel except if I launch an app (like Firefox or Thunderbird), in which case it's appearing at the same time as the app is starting.
I tried to look around for a possible root cause but I was no able to identify it.
Would somebody be able to point me in the correct direction please?
Thanks!

For the wallpaper your likely seeing the xserver background before xfdesktop starts. I had the same problem but forget which tool I used but there are several, setroot, hsetroot, xsetroot, feh etc. Use one of the tools to set your background image to the same one you use in xfce4. You won't notice the change.
Also I found in the config files there is still mention on the original background image. I removed the line and everything worked as expected.
As for as panel items starting slow you may have an item hanging for some reason. Auto started items, especially on the panel start up in sequence. If one hangs or is waiting the next item on the list won't start until the previous one completes whatever it's waiting for. You might try disabling the items one at a time to find out which one is the culprit then you can figure out why. It may also be possible to rearrange the order but I'm not sure how you would do that.

Thanks for the pointers!
Interestingly, I don't have neither issues when logging in with root account (i.e. default XFCE wallpaper is applied immediately and Status Tray icon is present).
Regarding the panel items, I suspected pipewire but removing it from the autostarted applications didn't change anything...
I'll try to look at the XFCE logs (the XSession error log contained just warnings).

So, after some time it finally worked but I am not sure why... I did a reset on the unused desktop profiles I had and after rebooting problem was gone and now it's working consistently as it should.
