i forget how this is done. i've looked around at various setting but cannot find bluetooth anywhere. my old age memory has definitely faded. i'm guessing that the bluetooth plugin is starting up some bluetooth stuff. i am having many bluetooth difficulties and rebooting seems to be making it worse. not logging in a certain user seems to improve things. i want to remove bluetooth stuff from that user so another can play audio over bluetooth.

Blueman applet is what sits in your system tray. You likely have starting automatically in Setting>>Session and Startup>>Application Autostart. Uncheck it so it doesn't start on login. To stop it now just right click and select Exit.

i did right click>>"Exit" on the "B" icon and it went dark. now, how do i start it back up?

I don't believe blueman-applet has a menu entry so you could alt-f2 for a run dialog or in a terminal enter

i got it so the "B" Bluetooth icon only shows up in user "pdh". but, after rebooting and setting up all users only user "phil" can play music. if i kill all process owned by "phil" then "pdh" can play music without rebooting. but to get it to work i have to power the headphones off and back on (it pairs, again, and connects, again).
if i have multiple userids on the same host that can be connected to in Bluetooth, how does it decide which user is connected? i suspect the Bluetooth architecture/protocol has no concept of users at a device (host), so it probably is just some effect in the Bluetooth software like which user answers first. i have killed all processes with "blu" in the execution name on user "phil" and re-connect and "pdh" still cannot play music. when i kill everything in user "phil" and re-connect, then "pdh" can play music and audio tracks of videos. the must be some other process involved.
users are auto started in alphabetic order, "pdh" being before "phil".

most people use just one userid. since lightdm supported many (each running its own instance of X), i decided to make use of this for better project isolation (better than separate directories). it is not the same as containers, but i think both could be used together for stronger isolation. now, i have a lot of dependency on this setup. changing back to single user is simply not an option. i just need to get Bluetooth to work on one specific userid. but i don't know if it matters what software gets run, how any of it is configured, or set, or whatever. making a new userid for playing music and videos is an option. i'd call it "media". but then i would need to get Bluetooth to work on it. i'm typing this in on userid "forums" (starts before "pdh" or "phil". "clock" is to display a fullscreen digital clock. "gene" is where i do my genealogy stuff. "admin" i where i do my sysadmin stuff (is sudo powered). "phil" is where i do personal programming. "pdh" is where i do other personal stuff. "ka9wgn" is intended for ham radio stuff but i have been doing my railroad interests there (for example i collect operation and service manuals for railroad engines).

That's what multiple users are, just separate directories under /home.
You may just need to make use of pulse audio to select inputs and outputs if your leaving other users active and using the sound system. Pasystray or Pulse Audio Plugin
