is the xfce-test docker image the best way to test?

Hi! I'm trying to test some concept and learning more about how xfce works making changes to xfce components. My question is, testing in the docker image is the best way? i dont want to install desktop directly because "maybe" this will interference with my desktop environment (which is XFCE) and dont "feels" good mix in the same place the testing with my all day usage.
I known what happens when run a make, this will generate local binaries but i don't known if the installation of the xfce dev tools and other can makes some changes in my dekstop.

So, use docker is the best way? why no other ways? is there another way? (i didn't found much about this)

Also, i see in docker listed another image, which is most recent by far, mean the xfce-test is 3 years old, but the xfce/xfce-build was updated 5 days ago. idk!
