turning on my monitor activates the XFCE display settings window

I mean that whenever the monitor displays an image after a few seconds, the display settings window has appeared. Is this just a hardware issue? That would be unfortunate: my monitor's relatively old, but it works fine; so I'm not about to buy a new one. Anyway, my monitor is Vizio, ehh...model E220MV. I know this didn't always happen...

Hardware issue or not, is there anything I can do to make the display settings window stop appearing whenever I turn the monitor on?

Re: turning on my monitor activates the XFCE display settings window

Go to keyboard Shortcuts and remove the shortcut for "Display" - probably set to "xfce4-display-settings --minimal". Your system is sending the display signal when the monitor is activated which is in turn activating the shortcut.

Re: turning on my monitor activates the XFCE display settings window

I have the same problem, I have deleted the "screen" shortcuts everywhere (there are more than just in "keyboard shortcuts"), but nothing changes, the display settings window pops up all the time.
This happens to me in a fresh Fedora 40 installation in a tower PC, in equal installations de F40 in two laptops it hasn't happened to me.

How about Settings Manager > Display > Advanced > When a display is connected. Do you have "Show dialog" selected?

Re: turning on my monitor activates the XFCE display settings window

After deselecting "show dialog" the "display settings" window no longer appears, but "power manager" has stopped working properly. It works only once after switching on the pc or after changing the display power saving settings or it just doesn't work at all...
After trying to activate "show dialog" again and then deactivate, power manager does not work but "display settings" window appears after the time set for screen whitening. sad

Re: turning on my monitor activates the XFCE display settings window

What version of Xfce are you running?

Can you post back the outputs of:

xfconf-query -c xfce4-power-manager -lv
ps -ef | grep power-manager

If you don't see anything clear don't break your head, this installation is only an experiment before upgrading my main pc system...
Maybe there is something with nouveau, which I have been touching due to mediocre graphics performance and as I am quite ignorant, I may have done something wrong.
XFCE is a mix of 4.18.1 and 4.18.6

Re: turning on my monitor activates the XFCE display settings window

I hope this query is in the right spot, it's very similar to the OP's question. Apologies in advance.

Can the part of the WM that recognizes monitor changes be completely stopped? I would like to put my monitors (4) on a switchable outlet strip and turn them completely off when not in use. Ask a fireman; the best off is unplugged from the wall.

Thanks for your time,

2³bit
