Just getting started with Thunar and while I can easily add bookmarks to most locations on the file system via `~/.config/gtk-3.0/bookmarks`, unfortunately `file:///` is not a valid path in most (all?) environments and Thunar doesn't seem to support it either.
Whilst I can add a bookmark for something `/usr` instead (`file:///usr`) and manually open up the parent directory from there, thought I'd check to see if there was something I missed or another syntax that would allow this.
Thanks!

Hello and welcome.
Which distro and what version of thunar are you using? file:/// works for me - are you getting a specific error?

Using a somewhat configured Arch, Thunar v4.18.11.
No errors or warnings anywhere as far as I can tell -- simply the bookmark is ignored/doesn't show up. I've added other bookmarks that way and they're working just fine. As mentioned, changing that file path to say `file:///usr` also lets it show up, so I haven't typo'd it.
Supposedly `file:///` is invalid in bash and derivative shells? Only just read that tonight, so not 100% on that and it's what I was referencing with this:
unfortunately `file:///` is not a valid path in most (all?) environments

file:/// works for me as well as just /. You should have this bookmark in the side pane under "File System" under Devices.
But it's all right, when you're all in pain and you feel the rain come down
It's alright, when you find your way, then you see it disappear
It's alright....

`/` interestingly will show up as a bookmark in Thunar, but attempting to open it will result in `Failed to open "/" Operation not supported.` `file:///`, as mentioned, won't even show up.
Good shout for Devices -> File System though, I had indeed somehow disabled that and forgot about it! Works great.
Edit: Sorry, tried to mark the post as solved by editing the title but it won't let me actually type [solved], the form blocks character input. Not quite sure how I'm supposed to work around that.
Edit2: Editing the field value manually via browser devtools show the field is limited to 70 characters (it really should display this, but I digress). Are we meant to lop off part of the title to support this?
