Weird Desktop Drag Problem

I was working in a spreadsheet program.  I was attempting to move a column with drag and drop.  I used the Alt key while trying drag and then insert.  But then the whole desktop started to move with my mouse cursor.  It was like it began to pan around, even though it was full screen, both in the program and on an empty workspace.  Only nothing can be maximized, and it appears to be over-maximized, if there is any such thing.

I cannot figure how to undo it.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Weird Desktop Drag Problem

Hm. Sounds like you accidentally entered zoom mode by hitting alt key plus scrolling. Try alt plus scroll down until screen is back to normal size.

Re: Weird Desktop Drag Problem

Thank you for your good response.  I will have to remember that.

I was able to get out of the problem by shutting all programs down and logging out.  When I logged back into the desktop, all was good again.

I can only assume it was some sort of weird keystroke combination; likely the one you mentioned.

Thanks again.

Re: Weird Desktop Drag Problem

The zoom mode is triggered by pressing both left-alt and right-alt at the same time, while using the scroll wheel on the mouse with the key pressed. Knowing the keyboard combination will save you trouble if you accidentally activated it again. But instead of zooming in, use the mouse wheel to zoom out by scrolling in the opposite direction.

Re: Weird Desktop Drag Problem

Thanks for the info.  I cannot imagine why such a key sequence exists.
