thunar stability

Thunar is really unstable. It crashes all the time. Very annoying.

When it crashes it is hard to terminate the process so you can't resume work easily, you just have to wait for it to do...  whatever. I am using this time to write a forum post. big_smile

Also it seems that it doesn't save the session at intervals, only when you correctly exit a non-crashed situation, so if there are multiple windows/tabs open they must be manually re-opened.

One thing that seems to cause it is if a directory is open but then that directory stops existing. Like if it is deleted by another process or even another thunar window/tab. Or drive is unmounted, or networked storage is lost. So working with files on network storage means thunar will crash anytime my wifi flickers.

But other times I don't know why.

Is there any way to debug it? I can't find a way to get any output from thunar.

Anyone else find thunar to be unstable or is it just me?

Re: thunar stability

Thunar has been rock solid for me since I started using it many years ago. I suspect something in your set up isn't right.

What version of Xfce4 and version of thunar are you using?

Have you checked your logs for errors such .xsessionerrors.old?

It is not thunar, it is your particular setup.
