Hey

Hi guys, I'm a rank newbie to Linux, but this was the only way to reactivate my old laptop which has a shredded Win XP that no longer works. I desperately need help with this fascinating Linux shit ;-) please help me! Is there anyone who can show me where I can get some basic knowledge to run my Ubuntu properly & efficiently? I'm really FASCINATED by all of this and the Linux community definitely has a new #1 fan - ME! But I'm stuck in this "terminal input madness" & don't know what to do.... I KNOW that the XFCE FORUM IS NOT THE RIGHT PLACE FOR MY PROBLEM...., but I think here I have a chance to find a competent person who recognizes my dilemma and is patient enough with me to help me solve the problems of a "zero knowledge guy" .... THANK YOU ALL FOR HELPING EACH OTHER .....and me.... (P.S.: and preferably in German...it's more fluent...) Thank you & greetings from the green heart of Germany!

Hallo Leute, ich bin ein blutiger Anfänger in Sachen Linux, aber das war der einzige Weg, um meinen alten Laptop zu reaktivieren, der ein zerschreddertes Win XP hat, das nicht mehr funktioniert. Ich brauche dringend Hilfe bei dieser faszinierenden Linux-Scheiße ;-) bitte helft mir! Gibt es jemanden, der mir zeigen kann, wo ich ein paar Grundkenntnisse erlangen kann, um mein Ubuntu richtig &effizient zu betreiben? Ich bin von all dem wirklich FASZINIERT und die Linux-Community hat definitiv einen neuen #1Fan - MICH! Aber ich stecke in diesem "Terminal-Eingabe-Wahnsinn" fest & weiß nicht, was ich tun soll.... ICH WEISS, dass das XFCE FORUM NICHT DER RICHTIGE PLATZ FÜR MEIN PROBLEM IST...., aber ich denke, hier habe ich die Chance, eine kompetente Person zu finden, die mein Dilemma erkennt und geduldig genug mit mir ist und mir hilft, die Probleme eines "Null-Wissens-Typs" zu lösen .... DANKE AN ALLE, DASS SIE SICH EINANDER HELFEN .....und mir....

(P.S.: und am Besten auf Deutsch...das geht flüssiger...)

Welcome to the forum.

I would suggest if you have a specific issue then ask the question. If it's not an Xfce4 issue you may be steered towards the X/Ubuntu forums but you may also get an answer.
I would start by posting your distro version and your Xfce4 version as well as the issue.

To save you from downloading distros that drive even those who normally use a computer ok and setup most things themselves nuts, I will recommend any beginner friendly distro. What linux are you using anyways
