Parole will not play WAV files - could not handle CDDA URI

I have an older music CD from the 1990's, the tracks are WAV files, not MP3 that is in use today.

Parole will not play the CD, it displays a GStreamer backend error.

Image of error

The GStreamer plugin packages (openSUSE Tumbleweed and Slowroll) currently installed are:

  • gstreamer-plugins-bad

  • gstreamer-plugins-base

  • gstreamer-plugins-good

  • gstreamer-plugins-good-gtk

  • gstreamer-plugin-openh264

Is the WAV format too old for Parole to recognize/play? Pragha and VLC are also installed and both will play this CD and its WAV files individually.

Thank you in advance.

EDIT: It is when Parole attempts to play an individual WAV file, that the above error displays.

Re: Parole will not play WAV files - could not handle CDDA URI

based on error, cd is not data-cd with wav files, but regular audio-cd, which linux if you mount it (ex. opening it from Desktop or in Thunar) show as "virtual" wav files...
in Parole you can play Audio/Video CD/DVD from menu "Media/Play Disk" and not need mount it before ;-)

Thank you for the reply.

Selecting (shown as) Play Disc 'Audio Disc' in Parole, will play the CD from Track 1. I will correct the original post. If I attempted to have Parole play an individual WAV file from the CD (going through Thunar), that is when the above error is displayed.

Re: Parole will not play WAV files - could not handle CDDA URI

if i try track from thunar open with parole, see same error as you ;-)

problem is as i write, is not regular wav files, only audio-cd represented as virtual wav's, and only after copying it from cd to hard/ssd-disk is really regular wav file and parole can play it from thunar

i try little investigate:
- from command line is play whole cd from track1 by: parole cdda://
- in "raw" gstreamer work for play track 3: gst-launch-1.0 -v playbin uri=cdda://3
- but parole ignore this way for specific track 3: parole cdda://3
    and play from track 1
- when open track 3 from thunar is run: /usr/bin/parole /run/user/1000/gvfs/cdda:host=sr0/Track 3.wav
    and show error

so i think Parole not support play individual track from audiocd...

In Parole, bottom right, can you click on playlist and maybe select a track? I don't know if this works, I haven't owned a CD in years.

Yes, when open from Media/PlayDisk, then Playlist is filled by all track, and switching track works :-)
