Test system: PC with a TEAC Corp. All-in-one-Reader CA200/B/S
OS: Xubuntu 2404 life system
The multi-card reader is listed with lsusb.
When I insert a formatted SD card, its green LED lights up.
dmesg shows a new device sde has been detected.
I can manually mount and unmount the SD card as /dev/sde1
However, the SD card does not automount (even though the respective settings are ticked for removable media) nor does it appear as an icon on the desktop (even after ticking the option to display removable media icons in the desktop settings).
In contract a formatted USB stick is automounted (and its icon displayed) when connected to the PC.
Are SD cards supposed to be automountable or can they be configured so?

Make sure you have the gvfs stuff installed and in thunar preference checked "enable volume management" Also just below that is "configure", check the settings.

Thanks for picking this up.
Those settings are enabled by default on the Xubuntu live image, and apt list shows a number of gvfs packages being installed. Whether all necessary ones are present is hard to tell. I'll retry this on a full Xubuntu installation.
Meanwhile, I tried the same thing on a Manjaro XFCE installation, and things do work there. The SD card automatically appears as a USB thumb drive icon on the desktop. I guess this is how it is intended.
Could Thunar technically distinguish between a USD thumb drive and an SD card inserted into a USB-connected card reader?
