Monitor poweroff is broken by redshift-gtk

Hello,

I am not sure if this is an XFCE problem, but I hope to get some help.

Everything is great, but if I enable redshift-gtk (a program to lower the blue from the monitor at night), the monitor will not respect the stand-by after 10 minutes of inactivity. It tries, it goes black for a second, but then it turns on again.

Before logging in (thus before loading redshift-gtk), the monitor power-off works.

Re: Monitor poweroff is broken by redshift-gtk

I'm not familiar with and don't use redshift but looking at the man page it seems it's adjusting slowly over time. I would imagine to do this it needs the screen active. Also looks like it can be set to switch in one shot. Maybe give that a try.

Re: Monitor poweroff is broken by redshift-gtk

Thank you! It is only adjusting slowly during sunrise and sunset (between natural dark and light). But I will investigate this.

FYI I use redshift-gtk in Xubuntu and do not have the problem you describe.
This is my ~/.config/redshift.conf ...

Re: Monitor poweroff is broken by redshift-gtk

I see. Thank you for the report! I am using openSUSE Tumbleweed latest with XFCE 4.20.

But I don't have the redshift.conf file in that location, and I also searched for it in my whole home directory.

Re: Monitor poweroff is broken by redshift-gtk

Do some testing using a config file.
See

man redshift

In my config I don't use a gradual transition and set the location to manual.
You can get lat/long coordinates from https://www.latlong.net
Round to 3 decimal places.
I'm using Xfce 4.18.1 , a previous version to yours.

Re: Monitor poweroff is broken by redshift-gtk

Thank you! I have to confess that I did not try if this problem was solved in XFCE 4.20, to which I updated a few days ago. I just tried to enable display power manager (I kept it disabled), and to my surprise it works now, with my other usual settings. Or maybe it was other update to my system.

Thank you for making me read the manual. I prefer to keep the default settings, but (since a long time now) I need to input the latitude and longitude of my city in the startup command, because it seems that redshift-gtk cannot connect to the internet to get them at startup. I use also the default colors (which are 4500 K at night and 6500 K at day). My night light is 3000 K, and I think I saw that the manual recommends this temperature at night, but I am a bit afraid to make the screen so red.

In the future I will consider making a config file.
