Hi all,
I try to establish a remote desktop connection from my Win11 to Xubuntu (24.04), but it fails.
First I start up mstsc on Windows, type in the IP of the Xubuntu machine and hit enter.
Then I am promted to login to Xubuntu. (Session = Xorg)
After providing the correct username and password, the remote desktop window turns black and closes.
Any idea on how I can resolve this issue?

Assuming you've got xrdp running on xubuntu. Can you confirm:
ps -ef | grep xrdp
Also, can you share the contents of the /etc/xrdp/xrdp.ini & /etc/xrdp/startwm.sh configuration files?
And finally:
sudo journalctl -b 0 | grep xrdp
...after a failed attempt.

Tried with almost clean Xubuntu 24.04 in virtual, install xrdp, open Remmina on main system, and connect to it, same problem as you...
But found, xrdp need on local machine NOT be logged, so when i logout, then RDP conection work ;-)

So, I guess I have a quite similiar setup to k3dar. There is a proxmox hypervisor which runs xubuntu on top of it as a VM. The Win11 client is run on a notebook. Both are located in the same VLAN, so there is no firewall or other security enforcement point in between.
I can confirm the experience from the last post. In case you have an open connection to xubuntu (e.g. via "VM console") the rdp connection via xrdp fails. Once logged out from xubunto, the rdp session works fine.
However, is there an option where I can rdp into xubuntu, even though there is an established session?
Either via a simultanious session or if that is not possible, so that the first session is automatically disconnected?
