application autostart never saves changes

I have been googling all day and have tried multiple solutions but my ubuntu24.04 never saves my changes in the application autostart list. i uncheck numerous things and every restart they reappear in autostart and really slow down boot and the whole system. Any permanent solution?

Re: application autostart never saves changes

i have multiple Xubuntu 24.04 installations and not have this problem, maybe you can check dirs/files permissions for ~/.config/autostart/* (and maybe for sure whole ~/.config/xfce4) if is owned by you and not root? owning as root can be sometime if run gui app with sudo ;-)

Re: application autostart never saves changes

I did edit my ./config/autostart file and that did no good but then I deleted entries in /etc/xdg/autostart and that seemed to work. I wonder though why the session and startup utility doesn't work anymore. I shouldn't have to screw around all  day finding a file that actually works to set startup applications.

Re: application autostart never saves changes

yes it is
/home/cmcanulty/.config/autostart/
and emptying all the unwanted apps at start there does nothing but emptying the ones in /etc/xdg/autostart seems to work

Re: application autostart never saves changes

but you cannot delete unwanted in ~/.config/autostart/ if is stock items, because:
- stock is in /etc/xdg/autostart/
- for disable stock is need have same filename in  ~/.config/autostart/ with "Hidden=true"
(because same filename have higher priority use from home)

example:
- stock autorun /etc/xdg/autostart/xscreensaver.desktop
- if want to disable it
=> in ~/.config/autostart/xscreensaver.desktop is:

[Desktop Entry]
Hidden=true

this lines is enough, buf of course can be also all other lines, important for disable autorun is Hidden=

and "Session and Startup" doing exactly this automaticaly when you disable it, create in home same filename as in etc, but set Hidden=true

Added later 05 min 58 s:
