How to avoid to be warped to another workspace?

When an application is already opened into a workspace different from the one I am working in and I use that application I am warped to the other workspace. This behavior is highly undesirable for me. I would prefer to open a copy of the same application in the current workspace. How to do it?

Thanks a lot.

This behaviour can be configured on the Window Manager Tweaks > Focus tab, "When a window raises itself".

it does not allow to open a new application instance but it's a good solution anyway.

Thank you very much for the quick answer
