Restore XFCE interface

Please help me! - Please help me! - Restore XFCE interface

Linux Mx did not allow the change from XFCE to Gnome interface, Linux Mx jumps back to the login immediately after logging in. In which file can you tell Linux Mx to load XFCE as the interface again.

thanks

Re: Restore XFCE interface

There is no reason other that cluttered menus that you can't have both gnome and Xfce4 installed at the same time and just select one at login. Can you tell us exactly what you've done so far to get here. I'm guessing you removed something.
You could try and start xfce4 from a tty <ctrl><alt><F3>.

startxfce4

This should get you in to the desktop if you haven't removed anything. Once your in you or if you can't get in,

apt update && apt reinstall xfce4

To hopefully get everything back.

Re: Restore XFCE interface

Thanks for the info.
I didn't remove anything, for some unknown reason the applications were no longer displayed in the Whisker Menu. I thought switching to a different interface might solve the problem.
I need the command line to start XFCE in USER-DIRS.
Deactivating GNOME and KDE was not enough to solve the problem.

Re: Restore XFCE interface

That .desktop file should be in /home/$USER/.config/autostart/xdg-user-dirs.desktop so it get run when you login. It has nothing to do with Xfce4 starting. I would check the log /home/$USER/.xsession-errors.old for any indication why the desktop won't start.

xsession-errors.old and xsession-errors ; Both files are empty, there is nothing in them.
