How to change background color of workspace switcher?

Is it possible to change the background color of the active workspace box in the workspace switcher without having to pick a completely different color theme? Here is the element I am talking about (the img tag doesn't seem to work):

The workspace pointed to by the arrow is the active one. The box is a slightly darker color than the inactive workspaces, but due to the color palette used, it is very difficult to distinguish the active workspace from the inactive ones. Is it possible to change the color used to indicate the active workspace without having to pick an entirely new color theme?
