i normally use sticky keys (settings >> accessibility >> keyboard >> sticky keys) because it makes things easier with my disability that makes it very hard to use my left hand. that way i can just press Ctrl then press "c" to type ^C or i can press Shift followed by a letter to type its upper case.
sometime i come back to my computer and find that stick keys is not work as if it has been switched off. i find that when this happens, it has affected every instance of X windows that is running (lightdm does all this for me like switching users). when i check the settings (settings >> accessibility >> keyboard >> sticky keys) i find the box for it is still checked even though it is not working. if i uncheck it and check it, again, it goes back to working for that one user (that one instance of X). so, it appears not to be some common problem (such as hardware or the kernel). i'm guessing X has a separate place it uses to know if this feature is enabled (this, apparently, the setting that changes), not in common with the user interfaces (settings >> accessibility >> keyboard >> sticky keys).
my guess is that very few people use the sticky keys feature, so whatever is causing this will rarely be seen. does anyone know more about how this is implemented?
i am running Xubuntu 20.04.6 (Xfce 4.14 i think).
