Hi,
New user here. 👋 I use XFCE with Arch Linux. A few months ago I started noticing this behavior. When I press shift-del to delete a file from the desktop, the confirmation popup ("Are you sure...?") opens in the center of the screen as expected unless a Thunar window is open. In that case, the popup is centered inside the Thunar window. If multiple Thunar windows are opened, I believe the popup is centered on the oldest window.
This is particularly bothersome when Thunar is open in a different workspace. Then the popup opens in that workspace, but silently. This is confusing, as I press shift-del and nothing appears to happen.
I can get used to this, but it would be nice if the popup always opened up in the current workspace.
(As an aside, this is a common scenario for me because I set my download directory to ~/Desktop, so many files reside there temporarily -- email attachments, utility bills and so on.)
I'll take this chance to say: thank you so much for XFCE! I have been a happy user for some 20 years.

Hello and welcome.
Look at Settings Editor > Window Manager Tweaks > Focus tab. There is a setting there for "When a window raises itself". Try setting it to "Bring window on current workspace".

Hi,
Thank you for your suggestion. No luck. Mine was set to "Switch to window's workspace", so I tried all three radio buttons with no success.
While at it, I tried to change other settings that seemed relevant on the Window Manager Tweaks and Thunar Preferences pages. Nothing helped.
It's got to be one of my settings, because nobody else on the Internet seems to have this problem. I'm able to reproduce it on my two computers, but also on my wife's laptop, which I also installed, but didn't tweak very much.

Ok. Did some testing and can replicate it.
Reproducible for me:
Open a thunar window on workspace 1
Move to workspace 2
Shift delete a file on the desktop
confirmation displays silently on workspace 1
Probably best to create a bug report.
