A week ago I asked here for help >> https://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=162572
My TP450s and 'old' MEDION Akoya Laptop, which landed on my desktop.
But please have a look at the first 2 screenshots.
Both Debian 12, same resolution. The TP450s I started years ago with buster, upgraded to bullseye and then bookworm and the Akoya with a fresh Debian 12 installation.
The preferences on the TP450s are usable, but on the Akoya that window is too large.
One user pointed to the 'thunar.xml' file first in
/etc/skel/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/thunar.xml
but that is non existing there on both machines.
Found it here. ~$ /.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/
We tried some minor modification, but to no avail.
I found a work around by adding a scaling in SETTINGS > DISPLAY > GENERAL of 1.1, but the question still remains. What's wrong here?
Thank you for having a look.

No one any idea, what is going on here?
Looks like that. The upper screenshot my TP450s and below the Akoya notebook. Both Debian 12, same GPU and resolution.

I'm not sure why it happens but have had it with Tilda Preferences window. Once I resized properly it was no longer an issue.

I think it's the advanced tab that defines the dialog height, because there's more items in it. On my system running Debian 12, the dialog height is 811 pixels so on your computer with 1366x768 resolution, it goes out of your screen. The weird thing is that both of your computers have the same screen resolution.

Yes, weird is the right way to call that.
I can not resize those preference windows. Mouse click on the windows edges only allows me to move that window on the screen.
As this is a fresh installation on that Akoya laptop, I tried with different older Debian 12 versions, all showed that feature of oversized preference windows, then I picked the latest Debian 11 version and with that, the windows size was OK. Upgraded that version to Debian 12 and the feature shows up again.
But funny, my TP450s I think, I installed with Buster, then upgraded to Bullseye and Bookworm and no issue ....
The proportions of the preference windows are the same, except the add-on at the bottom.
Was thinking of writing a bug report at Debian on this, but my experiences with bug reports on those 'peanuts' will not generate any attention there.

Can you show a screenshot of the Advanced tab in both cases ?
I wonder if there is a additional message in one case that makes the dialog bigger.

@hotnuma
That is causing it!!
Thank you very much. Sometimes it is just before your eyes, but you don't see it.
Added 'gvfs-backends' and now it's OK.
