Can't set full icon theme properly

I tried to install multiple(papirus, Tela-icon-theme etc) full icon themes (https://www.xfce-look.org/browse?cat=132&ord=rating), checked they were installed in the /usr/share/icons/ and also set "gtk-icon-theme-name" to the /etc/gtk-3.0/settings.ini file. Thunar shows the correct icons, and some apps too(firefox, xfce4-terminal), but many apps use their own, default icons, such as brave browser or librewolf or even kitty(terminal emulator).
I double checked if these apps have their corresponding icons in these full icon themes and yes, they are.
I also checked that these apps have their own .desktop files in place.
Any ideas why they don't pick the correct icon from the icon theme/s?

Anything I can try? Maybe I should install it somehow else?

set "gtk-icon-theme-name" to the /etc/gtk-3.0/settings.ini file.

Why are you using this method to set an icon theme?

Try instead to set it via Settings Manager > Appearance > Icons. (It would be a good idea to remove any gtk-icon-theme-name entry from /etc/gtk-3.0/settings.ini and/or ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini as well).

It was just one of the ways, as I prefer to do it programmatically.
I tried with appearance app too, same result. I'm not sure what's the reason it doesn't apply for all the icons.
I also tried the hardcore fixer (https://github.com/Foggalong/hardcode-fixer) with no positive result.

Tried as you suggested, still the same. Really can't understand what's the issue here.

I can follow your instruction for a freshly installed system, if you have anything in mind.

Can you post back the contents of the brave browser, librewolf, any kitty desktop files that should be located in /usr/share applications?

You're right...

I currently have Tela-* theme/s(https://www.xfce-look.org/p/1279924), so, for example brave and librewolf should have their own icons from the theme, as in the thumbnail of the theme - https://images.pling.com/img/00/00/32/2 … 7c8b84.png

However, in the(just as an example) /usr/share/icons/Tela-orange/scalable/apps/brave.svg (or librewolf.svg) the icons are the default app icons and not as they shown in the icon theme's thumbnail.

I'm a newbie in these things, can you please explain if this is expected or/and I need to change something?
Because obviously I'm interested in applying the theme to get the teme's icons and not the default ones.

P.S. before that, I tried other themes too, including papirus, and it was the same(with brave, librewolf etc).

Can you post back the contents of brave's .desktop file in /usr/share/applications? Lets see what that says about the icon.

Re: Can't set full icon theme properly

geany works for me.

kitty doesn't display the correct icon but that's a kitty problem. Run "xprop" and when the cursor changes to a cross, click on the kitty window and notice the output - especially the "WM_ICON_NAME" property.

I don't have brave installed.
